DOMESTIC horse racing at Borrowdale is set to resume on 7 September with the course undergoing repairs.

Mashonaland Turf Club racing manager, Betina Gurajena confirmed that horses will start galloping again during the first week of next month.

“Our 2018/19 season came to an end a few ago, we are on a scarification break however, action will resume on 7 September at the race course according as per our programme.

“For now we are busy doing some maintenance of the course in particular looking for any holes that might injure the connection and closing them up among other things that might need touch up.

“We look forward to an exciting 2019/20 racing alongside new sponsors for a number of our races on the calendar.

“At the same time fans will see horses training under new trainers in action as they fight for prizes on offer, a situation that we expect will add more drama and excitement every race meeting,” said Gurajena.

The two are set to complement the number of trainers who have thrown in the towel for various reasons over the years namely Lisa Harris as well as Penny Fisher to name but a few.

According to the racing manager, the two trainers are Zimbabwean based Thomas Mason as well as Venessa Birktos.

Members of the horse racing fraternity led by the retiring Penny Fisher have also given the current Board of Stewart who have tirelessly kept racing going while hoping they that it will continue for many years to come a thumbs up.

Next season will start with an amazing new sponsorship, the Summer Cup as well as the after racing famous band which is expected to soothe enthusiasts on their feet after a hectic day of sitting while watching connections battle it out on the turf.

According to the programme the first race is going to be the 1 000m Air Force of Zimbabwe Handicap, a charity event.

A total of nine race meetings are going to be held before festive season break takes course at Borrowdale.
