A ZANU-PF local authority candidate for Ward Three in Hwange Central Constituency, Cde Daniel Sithole has installed Wi-Fi in Chibondo suburb to help residents access various digital services.

Cde Sithole, who is the party’s youth league provincial secretary for transport and social welfare, said the Wi-Fi with a radius of 100 metres, is meant to make sure residents, especially youths, have access to Government services and research online.

He said the idea came about not only as a campaign tool but to complement Government programmes to equip communities using Information Communication Technologies (ITC).

Besides introducing Wi-Fi services, Cde Sithole has also helped rehabilitate roads in the ward, and also donated rubbish bins to help keep the suburb clean.

“We have been doing door-to-door campaign where we drum up support for the party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

What I have done is to open Wi-Fi services accessible to everyone in the ward including Megawatt Primary School free of charge. This isn’t a campaign tool only but an empowerment tool for our youths so they can research their schoolwork and for every resident to access even Government services online,” said Cde Sithole.

He said he was working hard to address some challenges facing the suburb, east of Hwange coal mining town.

“We have donated garbage bins which we have mounted on the road sides. We are currently patching potholes and also working towards introducing public transport since people have to travel for nearly one kilometre to get kombis to town. The other challenge is that of baboons as residents can’t have gardens because of the wild animals and this will be one of my priority areas once elected,” he said.

Cde Sithole said if elected into the Hwange Local Board, he will make sure the free Wi-Fi services continue.

He said as part of his plans, he will open a skills database where all youths, skilled and unskilled will be recorded for purposes of facilitating jobs for them. Cde Sithole said plans are also underway to introduce a neighbourhood watch committee programme to combat crime in the ward.
