FORMER Zimbabwe Football Association board member Jabulani Nkomo has given his reasons why he turned down a request to enter the race for the Zifa vice-presidency.
Nkomo revealed last Friday that he had been approached by some stakeholders in the game to stand for the second most powerful position on the Zifa board but he realised that it was going to clash with his business interests.
“I was approached by the football family to stand for the Zifa vice-presidency. I considered and realised that my hands are full at the moment, my time will be split, there is a lot of hard work to be to be done. For this current situation we need people who will work hard and have adequate time, it is such a huge challenge. I realised I don’t have the time. I have the passion for soccer but I want Zifa to succeed, I want the football fraternity to enjoy the sport. I made a decision not to participate,’’ said Nkomo.
The 52-year-old Bulawayo businessman said he will support whoever is voted in to make sure that they turn Zifa around. He implored the Zifa councillors to make the right choice as the future of the association was in their hands.
“I am hoping that the Zifa councillors make the correct choice, they have had many elections before, it now is in their hands, the future of Zifa is in the hands of the councillors. They should choose a leader who has the rightful intentions, who has the capacity, can market Zifa, has the clout. Zifa will survive if sponsors come on board,’’ Nkomo said.
