ORGANISERS of the annual, Kwekwe Expo, have said the 2020 edition of the business expo is on this month despite slight changes owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Launched in 2010, the event usually takes place in September but, according to organisers, this year’s edition had to be postponed.

Kwekwe Publicity Association chairperson who also chairs the expo organising committee, Mr Erick Msesengwe said despite slight delays, the event was going on as scheduled.

Traditionally, the event takes three days with companies and businesses exhibiting their services at the Kwekwe Mining Museum.

Usually the business conference is held at a selected venue before an awards ceremony and a pageant, Miss Kwekwe Expo at the Kwekwe Museum.

Mr Msesengwe, however, said this year’s edition will only see the business expo being held while the rest were scrapped off owing to the global pandemic.

“What we have done for this year is that we have removed other aspects that might pose a risk to the delegates. So, we have decided to hold a one-day business conference instead of the three-day event,” said Mr Msesengwe.

He said the conference was key to the Kwekwe business community hence will go on under the theme “Reigning economic recovery post Covid-19”.

“We seek through the expo and the business conference to empower and improve the quality of our business people especially those emerging and the Small to Medium Enterprises,” said Mr Msesengwe.

He said Zesa Holdings executive chairman, Dr Sydney Gata will be the guest of honour.

“Dr Gata is expected to give a keynote speech at the event and joins other guests who officiated since the launch of the expo in 2010. We are glad that he has accepted our invitation and we look forward to share ideas on alternative energy sources in our country,” he said.

He said exact dates and venue for the conference are yet to be finalised but will be announced in due course.
