ONE of the country’s leading heavy duty electrical manufacturing and engineering firms, Leaford Electric Rewind, has become one of the indigenous companies to manufacture industrial electricity metering units. Leaford Electric Rewind technical director Mr Orphan Bhiza said the metering units, which include current (CPs) and voltage transformers (VPs) were the latest innovation by the company’s engineering department.

The metering units are used to step down transmitted voltage and current for use by heavy industries to a measurable value to enable consumers to be in the knowhow of their consumption rate.

“We have introduced a new product which will see us supplying CP and VP transformers as well as metering units. These products are specifically for measuring electricity being consumed by companies or individuals in mining, manufacturing and agricultural sector.

“This new innovation is a clear indication that our engineering department is made up of highly qualified personnel and it’s also a plus for the country as these products were mostly exported. It will also create good faith between the firms and the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority,” Mr Bhiza said.
The company opened its engineering department in 2013 as part of its rebranding initiative aimed at increasing its clientele base.

In 2012, the Bulawayo-based company had successfully spread its tentacles and managed to open another branch in Harare.
“Our market base has continued to grow ever since we opened a branch in Harare. We have managed to get some inquiries in countries such as Malawi and Zambia. We also boast a large market niche in the country.

“In actual fact we have made numerous exports of transformers to Malawi and most of our clients have requested that we set up a workshop there so that we can repair and supply the same,” Mr Bhiza said.

The company also produces components such as industrial welding machines, current transformers, voltage transformers as well as power distribution transformers.
