A NEW football dawn has emerged in the fishing resort town of Binga after Lunda FC were promoted into the Zifa Southern Region Division One league after emerging winners of the new Matabeleland North Division 2B league.

Lunda FC had a points tally of 35 points from 16 games in the 10 team league formed this year.

Siansali FC were second with 27 points while Kamativi FC settled for third position slot.

In a telephone interview, Zifa southern region chairman Musa Mandaza was over the moon over the development.

“I am personally very gratified over the onset of Division One football in Binga because if you recall well I was one of the people who were vocal in the call for the formation of four regional leagues in the country. Binga is home to soccer greats like the Ndlovu brothers, Madinda, the late Adam and Peter so the youngsters in that area have enough motivation already.

I have a dream of seeing premier league in Binga in the same way Tsholotsho achieved that feat,” said Mandaza.

Meanwhile, Zifa Matabeleland North Division 2A champions Moto Moto coach Freddy Mudado has promised to provide a decent performance in Division One next year.

“The victory is not for me alone but for the entire team, the technical bench especially my assistant Mike Ndlovu who ably stood for me when I was away from the team due to work commitments and the team leadership who supported us.

We hope we also have some sound sponsorship from around so that we will be able to surprise many teams despite going into the higher league as underdogs,” said Mudado.— @tobymandox
