FEMALE bodybuilder, Kylie MacDonald is gearing to challenge for top honours at this year’s PPC Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Championships at Bulawayo Theatre on Saturday.

The 26-year-old MacDonald has been working hard at Body Works Gym as she prepares for a shot at a national title come Saturday. She said her training has gone really well and she is ready for the show on Saturday.

“My preparations for the competition have been going good as usual, training hard of course and pushing myself to be better, not better than anyone else but better than I was before,’’ MacDonald.

What has been tough for her is dieting part but despite that, she is excited at the same time nervous to put on display the months of her hard work.

“The most difficult part about my preparation is definitely my diet, it’s hard and it takes real discipline to go through it to the end. I do feel ready for the competition I’m excited and nervous at the same time to show off how hard I have been working at Body Works Gym,’’ she said.

MacDonald last competed in September when she was second in the women’s bikini at the Ms Bulawayo show staged at Elite 400.

Her biggest competition is expected to come from the seasoned Shantel Greenland who was second in the same contest last year. South Africa-based Zimbabwean, Precious Ndlovu is also heading home to take part in the event and that promises to add some excitement since there is not much women taking part in the event.

Ndumiso Dlodlo, winner of men’s title since 2016 is the favourite once again, with Lovemore Munyamana, the best bodybuilder in Bulawayo also having eyes on the top prize. Thembinkosi Lunga and Delvin Paige are the other Bulawayo athletes gunning for the big one.

In the men’s physique, Pretchard Hoko, fresh from being crowned champion at the Novice Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships is entering for the first time where he could find himself taking the top accolade again since some of the athletes in that category from Bulawayo have relocated to South Africa.

Saturday is an action packed day with the Mr Strongman, also bankrolled by PPC Zimbabwe to be held at the ZITF Main Arena in the afternoon prior to the bodybuilding show taking place in the evening. Botswana domiciled Zimbabwean, Gift Sango has walked away with the top accolade at the Mr Strongman for two years in a row.
