MATABELELAND Tuskers were left staring at yet another defeat in the Logan Cup first class cricket competition after they let Mountaineers pile on a massive score on day two of the clash between the two teams at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

Timycen Maruma struck 164 off 225 balls, followed by wicketkeeper Tafadzwa Tsiga with 124 from 244 deliveries, his maiden first class hundred as Mountaineers scored 497 in 146.45 overs. Veteran pace bowler Christopher Mpofu finished with five wickets for 116 runs in 33.5 overs.

At the close of play last night, Tuskers were 58 for two in 26 overs, still needing 439 runs behind with eight first innings wickets in hand.

Cunningham Ncube and Brian Chari were the batsmen who had been dismissed before the end of the day’s proceedings.

The John Nyumbu captained Tuskers are yet to win any of the three matches they have played so far in the Logan Cup with one draw, a no result and a loss suffered at the hands of Mashonaland Eagles.

If Tuskers are to avoid a consecutive defeat in the competition, their batsmen have to emulate their Mountaineers counterparts by scoring big in both innings.
