BRAIN Box Scripture Union (SU) schools quiz competition defending champion Mpopoma High School have retained their title after shrugging off competition from six other schools from Bulawayo.
The Brain Box Quiz competition began in 2015 and has grown with the participation of various stakeholders which include individuals, corporates and local churches.
The Bulawayo provincial director of the Brain Box Quiz, Mr Abraham Mabhena said, “The quiz is designed as an educational programme that seeks to encourage the systematic study of the Bible and the application of Biblical values and principles to transform this nation.”
He said that their agenda was not competing but to develop Godly leaders and responsible citizens who will help change communities through good works
Seven schools were part of the Brain Box competitions and these schools had won in their respective districts.
The schools are Ihlathi High School, Mzilikazi High School, Herentals College, Mpopoma High School, Gifford High School, Amhlophe High School and Christian Brothers College.
Three schools with lowest points were eliminated from the final round.
In the final round four schools were competing against each other, Mpopoma High came first, followed by Mzilikazi High, Christian Brothers College and Amhlophe High did not make it in the top three schools.
Mr Mabhena said the quiz was also in the application of Biblical values and principles to transform the nation.
Throughout the, SU clubs are taught how to apply Biblical principles for effective peer influence.
The clubs are taught various life skills meant to help young people make informed decisions about their lives and their future.
The organisation also focuses on HIV and Aids education among other programmes.
He said that as Scripture Union they have proven that Biblical values are key in complementing academic efforts as it helps transform behaviour and create a conducive learning and teaching environment for all.
The Brain Box Quiz tests the knowledge of students in knowledge of the Bible and the world in general.
