MultiChoice Zimbabwe will help ensure that local film and television producers get a chance to have their work showcased on various broadcast platforms with the first Zimbabwean local content summits to be held in Harare and Bulawayo.

In an interview, the publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, Liz Dziva said the workshops will be hosted by MultiChoice Africa.

Liz said the aim of the workshops was to attract top quality productions from Zimbabwe on DStv channels. She said the workshops will cover a lot of topics which include scripting and screen-writing.

“The workshops will include skills training and information sessions from various industry experts. Many other aspects that go into a high quality production will be discussed during this summit,” she said.

She urged producers to use the different platforms that have been availed to them by DStv to showcase their work.

“There are a number of platforms under the DStv umbrella that can be utilised by local film-makers and producers for continental and international broadcast of their work, most notably the Zambezi Magic channel, which was created to provide a platform for local producers to tell their stories. Such local content summits highlight all of these opportunities,” she said.

Although the channels are not in a position to provide exclusive funding for production, they do pay producers for use of content. Liz said the visiting speakers will give the producers and film makers heads up on what they expect from them.

“This is a genuine outreach exercise aimed at setting in motion a continuous flow of local productions onto DStv, taking them to audiences beyond our own borders and placing them as strategically competitive with productions from the rest of the continent,” she said.
