LUVEVE High School will host this year’s edition of the National Association of Secondary Schools Under-17 inter-provincial volleyball championships next weekend.

The two-day tournament will see the top volleyball-playing schools from the country’s 10 provinces battling for honours in both boys and girls categories on Saturday and Sunday.

The Nash sponsored tournament will be held for the first time in Bulawayo and will be used to select the national volleyball team for the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa ball games which, ironically, will be staged in the city in August.

Luveve High, St Columbus and Eveline, all from Bulawayo will face nine other provincial champions.

By virtue of being the hosting school Luveve High will field two teams in the competition while St Columbus and Eveline will only have one team.

Confirming the championships, Ntombizodwa Gumede, the Nash provisional head-in-charge of volleyball in Bulawayo, said the tournament would be used as a selection event for two representative sides for the Cossasa ball games.

“Luveve High will be the hosts of the national volleyball tournament which will be used to select two Under-17 national volleyball teams for the ball games of the Cossasa,” said Gumede, adding that the event would also be used as a platform for the upcoming and talented volleyball players to showcase their skills.

There will be prizes for the top three teams.

Luveve High will also host the annual Luveve Academy schools tournament that is open to both primary and secondary schools from the southern part of the country immediately after the inter-provincials.
