One Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) leader, Pastor Jedmos Moyo has embarked on an independent project that seeks to identify artistic talent in youths in an effort to develop them into leaders for the purpose of spreading the gospel.
The project, Talent Trackers, involves going around rural schools, addressing pupils and from there identifying those that display the potential of being actual artistes and then getting them into a mentorship programme.
Although the recruitment is done at schools, the talent hunt is not limited to school going children. It is open to anyone between the ages of five and 40 who believes they are good at singing, dancing, poetry and any other form of art.
“We are looking for people who are in tune with the gospel or those who are willing to learn about the gospel and embrace it.
Because these are things of God, we are looking for people who are transparent and trustworthy. It is important that we engage people who either have a strong relationship with God or are looking to have a personal relationship with God,” said Pastor Moyo.
The particular project comes as part of Pastor Moyo’s ministry of spreading the Christian message to the remotest areas of Matabeleland provinces.
“I chose to do this talent scout in rural areas because these are perhaps the neglected areas when it comes to the arts, because most artistes are based in the city.
“These are the kind of people we are targeting, those who are talented but do not have the means to make it to the city. We are targeting specifically Gwanda, Matobo, Plumtree, Tsholotsho, Esigodini, Mtshabezi and Filabusi,” Moyo said.
He said they were targeting a total of five artistes every two months such that at the end of the year, they will have identified about 30 youths and linked them to their respective mentors.
Dates for the commencement of the Talent Trackers project will soon be announced. Pastor Moyo is a vocalist for his family gospel group Abanqobi Ngegazi Lemvana.
