ONE of the country’s fastest growing diversified firms, Pote Holdings has donated chemical disinfectants and personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Zvishavane District Covid-19 taskforce as part of its efforts to complement the Government in its fight against the spread of the deadly pandemic.

In an interview with Sunday News Business after the handover of 200 litres of hydrogen peroxide and an assortment of PPE last Friday, Pote Holdings general manager Mr Tamson Mtombeni said the donation was part of the company’s social corporate responsibility obligation.

“As Pote Holdings we have donated hydrogen peroxide, which is the chemical used to kill the coronavirus germ including PPE. We donated enough to disinfect the entire district’s hotspots of which the disinfection exercise by the Zvishavane Covid-19 taskforce committee started today (last Friday),” he said.

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound, which is a combination of hydrogen and water. The clear liquid acts as a mild antiseptic and comes in various potencies depending on its purpose.

“This donation is part of thanking the community for the support it has given us even in the face of economic hardships. As a company we believe that business is not all about making money but we also strive towards participating in social corporate responsibility programmes in communities we operate from,” he said.

Mr Mtombeni also said the gesture was part of complementing the efforts being done by Government to curb the spread of the disease.

“We are also complementing the Government’s efforts in curbing the spread of this deadly disease and as a business we are mostly concerned about the welfare of our customers and potential customers’ welfare. It really doesn’t make any sense to have the entire community wiped out by the disease yet we can’t survive without them but they can survive without Pote,” he said.

The Zvishavane-based company has interests in wholesaling, retailing, hardware, transport, borehole drilling, agriculture, quarry, gold milling and the hotel industry. – @DNsingo
