CEMENT producer Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) Zimbabwe has donated Personal Protective Clothing (PPE) to Gwanda District to assist in the fight against Covid-19.

PPC Collen Bawn factory general manager Mr Ngangezwe Khumalo handed over the donation which comprised 4 000 face masks, 400 disposable gowns and 20 boxes of gloves to Gwanda Environmental Health Training Officer, Mr Clever Ncube on Thursday last week.

The donation is set to assist frontline workers in the province as they battle with the pandemic. Workers in the country that comprise health personnel, law enforcement agents, the military, social welfare officers among others have been operating with limited protective clothing.

Speaking during the handover, Mr Khumalo said the mining company remained committed towards assisting Government in the fight against Covid-19.

“As PPC Zimbabwe we remain committed towards supporting Government in the fight against Covid-19. It remains our duty to support the community of Gwanda and surrounding areas. In that regard we are donating some protective clothing to the district which comprises 4 000 masks, 400 disposable gowns and 20 boxes and gloves. We hope the donation will go a long way and we will also continue to assist wherever we can,” he said.

Speaking after receiving the donation, Mr Ncube said the protective clothing had come at a critical time when the number of returnees continued to rise. He called on various partners to assist the district with equipment for the fight against Covid-19.
