FORMER Bulawayo Deputy Mayor, Alderman Amen Mpofu’s burial has been set for Tuesday (today) at the Lady Stanley Cemetery.
Ald Mpofu passed away last Friday at Mpilo hospital due to kidney failure.
Giving an update on the burial arrangements for the former Deputy Mayor, Bulawayo City Council corporate communications officer, Miss Bongiwe Ngwenya said a special council meeting to honour Ald Mpofu will be held at the council chambers at 9am after which a memorial service is set for the Amphitheater.
“Please be advised that Alderman Mpofu will be buried on Tuesday, 5 October 2021. A special Council meeting will be held in his Honour on Tuesday, 5 October 2021 at 9am in the Council Chamber and thereafter a Burial Service will be conducted at the Amphitheater from 10am. He will be buried at the Lady Stanley Cemetery,” said Miss Ngwenya.
Ald Mpofu was elected as ward two councillor and was sworn into office in 2003 and re- elected in 2008 for the 2008 – 2013 term of office.
He was elevated to the dignity of Alderman on 14 May 2018, a fitting status for a dedicated son of Bulawayo who worked tirelessly to represent the underprivileged members of our society.
Ald Mpofu is survived by four children, one girl and three girls.
