Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge Bureau
MORE than 3 000 people are expected to get free medical attention from a team of 100 specialist doctors in Beitbridge.

The doctors were expected in the border town yesterday courtesy of the Zimbabwe National Development Association. Zinda national executive director Mr Themba Ncube said the doctors will offer their services in voluntary services.

Apart from doctors, veterinary doctors and lawyers will also be part of the outreach programme.

“A team of specialist doctors has since visited Beitbridge Hospital to appreciate the kinds of illnesses which are common in this district including skin disease, eye problems, tuberculosis, sugar diabetes and hernia among others.

“We have started mobilising medication and equipment that will be used in treating the various ailments. At the end on the programme we will donate the surplus to Beitbridge district hospital,” said Mr Ncube.

He said they had also collected an inventory of the medications and equipment which are needed to conduct specialist operations at Beitbridge District Hospital.

Mr Ncube said the outreach programme was driven by Zinda’s quest to enhance the quality of life of disadvantaged members of the community through provision of free medical services.

“You will note that our health institutions are facing acute shortages in terms of resources and other specialist services.

“As an organisation we would also want to assist communities to construct medical facilities with the assistance of Government and local authorities.

“Last year we carried out the outreach programme in areas including Esigodini, Manama, Victoria Falls, Bubi district, Filabusi, Binga and at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair. The programme is spreading to other parts of the country.”
