A CITY man is counting his losses after his vehicle was stolen by suspected carjackers in the early hours of yesterday morning at a local night spot only to be found abandoned after being involved in an accident in Ascot, it has emerged.
According to the owner of the vehicle, who refused to be named, at around midnight his cousin left the bar to take a nap in his car when the car was stolen a few minutes later.

“I was with my cousin who said he was tired and wanted to take a nap in my car which was parked outside. I gave him the keys and he went to sleep. Moments later he came to me saying the car had been stolen by unknown people,” he said.

He said the assailants pushed his cousin out of the car and sped off to an unknown destination.

“After he told me we went to the Bulawayo Central Police Station and made a report. We then decided to try and track the vehicle in the direction my cousin said it had sped off. We took a taxi and went along Leopold Takawira Avenue where we found the car abandoned after it had an accident at a robot controlled intersection,” he said.

The vehicle was found rammed between a street light and an external cabinet for traffic light batteries at the intersection of Leopold Takawira and George Avenue in Ascot.

The police spokesperson for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said he had not received a report of the incident.

In another incident, a 24-year-old woman from Selborne Park was on Independence Day raped by a man who broke into a car where she and her boyfriend were having sexual intercourse in the early hours of the morning.

According to Insp Moyo, at around midnight the woman was picked up by her boyfriend who stays in Woodville and they drove along 4th Avenue Extension in Suburbs to a secluded bushy area where they parked.

Insp Moyo said the couple was having sexual intercourse when an unknown man smashed the window of the vehicle and took away the keys of the vehicle. He dragged the woman’s boyfriend to the bushes.

“The assailant is said to have come back to the spot where the vehicle was parked and found the girl still sitting in the car and he force-marched her into the bushes and raped her once. He demanded cash and cellphones,” he added.

The assailant got away with US$18 and two Samsung cellphones.
After the sexual attack the woman then walked into town where she bumped into her boyfriend who then made a report to the police.

Insp Moyo said the matter was still under investigation but urged citizens to heed the advice that police give them.

“We urge citizens to take seriously the things we say. We always discourage people from parking at secluded places at night as they are at risk of being waylaid by thieves,” he said.

A Bulawayo man was in February attacked by robbers while having sex with a girlfriend in a Toyota Fortuner that was parked near Centenary Park in the early hours of the morning.

The robbers stabbed him on his back before demanding money and his cellphone.
