A MAN from Inyathi has been convicted and sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting his mother for trying to stop him from beating up a suspected lady of the night he had hired from a local club.

Langelihle Sibanda (20) from Badala Village recently appeared before Mr Stephen Ndlovu facing a domestic violence charge.

He was found guilty and sentenced to three months behind bars. Langelihle assaulted his mother Kwanele Sibanda (38) after she helped a lady he was assaulting. Kwanele sustained neck injuries due to the assault.

Prosecuting Mr Zivanai Hlomayi said on 25 April at around 9pm Langelihle came home from Mahamba Business Centre in the company of a woman only identified as Pretty.

“When Langelihle arrived home he was already fighting with Pretty over money issues. So Kwanele tried to stop his son from further assaulting Pretty but it was pointless as he did not stop. She then decided to escort Pretty to the bus stop so that she would go back to her place in Bulawayo,” said Mr Hlomayi.

The court heard that Langelihle followed the two women to the bus stop.

“When he got near Pretty she hid behind Kwanele and Langelihle assaulted his mother with fists for protecting Pretty.

He assaulted her several times on the neck and she screamed and told him to stop but to no avail.”
