Terrible weather fails to put damper on AMG Global Junior Rugby Coaching Festival opening day Marius Hurter conducting drills

BAD weather failed to put a damper on the first day of the AMG Global Junior Rugby Coaching Festival at Falcon College in Esigodini on Friday with the sessions as we as matches proceeding well despite soggy pitches.

Coaching sessions conducted by the South African experts who were assisted by two locals went ahead in heavy rain in the morning. Even though the rain did stop, the pitches were damp but that did not stop the youngsters from schools drawn from all over the country putting in all the hard work.

Former Springboks prop Marius Hurter, Jacques Botes and Greg Miller conducted coaching with two locals, Brendan Dawson and Schalk Ferreira. They were joined in the afternoon by ex Boks hooker Delarey Du Preez who only made it on Friday after missing his flight from East London.

Eight matches took place in the afternoon and were played in a competitive spirit. As has been the case since the festival started in 2016, the coaches are actually allowed on the field of while the matches are going to give direction to their players.

A formal dinner took place in Bulawayo on Friday evening for the coaches and officials.  Falcon College headmaster Reginald Querl, AMG Global Partner in charge of Bulawayo Emmanuel Mudefi, Miller as well as Zimbabwe Rugby Union vice president south Martin Shone were the speakers at the formal function.

The fiesta heads into the second day on Saturday with coaching sessions in the morning before the matches take place in the afternoon.

Coaches and their players will certainly be hoping that the rain stays away so the proceeding s for the day can go on smoothly.

Besides AMG Global, the other bankrollers of the junior rugby coaching fiesta are Zimbabwe Lithium and Fawcett Security.
