Two levels of knowing God

The Sunday News

GREETINGS beloved nation in the name of Jesus Christ. It is important that we get to know God especially in the days that we are living in. If we fail to know him, we will have destroyed ourselves and our destinies. There are many levels or dimensions of getting to know God, but allow me to share just two.

If we first get to know God, it will help us as well to get to know ourselves and to know our purpose in this life. So we cannot know our purpose or ourselves if we don’t know God. In the book of Exodus 3 we see here Moses after he had run away from Pharaoh, he found himself keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of the Median. He led the flock to the backside of the desert. The Bible says he came to the mountain of God called Horeb.

You cannot be on the mountain and not hear or see certain things that surround God. So this dimension of hearing or seeing will help us to get to know who God is. Exodus 3:3-4 says, Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses! And he said, “Here I am.” We see here Moses begins to see the burning bush and as he looked behold the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed. We see that, (i) Moses in the mountain of God begins to see a peculiar miracle and (ii) he begins to hear. It is not enough to only hear about God but we need to obtain grace also to see so that our conviction will be in full. Now I understand why Moses was so bold because he not only heard Him, but had seen Him as well and he also had an encounter.

You see the generation that we are in is a generation that has only heard about Him or heard a rumour about Jesus. That’s why they cannot stand certain afflictions and trials because they are not sure whether what they heard is true. It is not enough to just hear but you also need to see Him. That’s why we have got a lot of people that are forced to come to church, some will tell you that they will not come to church because they don’t have fuel or transport money and the church must pay for their transport.

The way they pray, praise Him or clap is a sign that the church is only moving by what they have heard but they have not come to the second level of knowing Him. We see in the book of Hebrews 11:27 that Moses forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

So meaning that we need to enter into the dimension of seeing Him who is invisible like Moses.

The moment you begin to see Him who is invisible there are certain things that the church will not fear to say because they had an encounter. Remember this man stood before a fierce king who was ruling in Africa. Many a times we want to stand before fierce people trying to convince them without having an encounter with the invisible God. That’s why we are not heard because we will be speaking in one dimension of hearing. Let us not stop at only hearing about Him, but let the Holy Spirit transport us so that we may see Him as well. In the book of Job we see Job, one of the things that made this man great and that caused him to also overcome in the midst of affliction was that he moved in these two dimensions. We see him in Job 42:5 making a confession and he was repenting (i) he said I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, (ii) but now my eye seeth thee. We can see why the people of old moved so much in victory, it was because they had the ability to hear.

The Bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. They also had the ability to see him. Many Christians have stopped only at hearing that’s why they are discouraged, they want to give up. But my prayer is may you obtain the grace to move in the second level of seeing him. In the book of John 1:45 we see the conviction of Nathaniel. In verse 45 he hears about Jesus and he begins to despise the location of Jesus and Phillip encourages him to come and see. So meaning that sometimes we can hear wrongly and we miss him. But when he takes the steps and the desire of wanting to see Him, he finds Him in verse 50 and 51. Jesus begins to say, thou shall see greater things than these, it’s taking me to the dimension of seeing, a dimension of encounters. (i) Jesus says to him, “you shall see Heaven open, (ii) the angels of God descending upon the son of man.” And Nathaniel was convicted. In Matthew 11:4 we see Jesus answering the disciples of John saying “go and tell him the things you have heard (i) first dimension and the things you have seen (ii) second dimension.”

Ladies and gentlemen in the gospel of the kingdom we must have the grace to hear and the grace to see, the blind see, the dead are raised and the deaf hear. In 1 John 1:1 we see the testimony of one of the apostles when he says, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life”.

So meaning the apostles heard and also they saw with their eyes and handled the word of life. In Acts 26:13-14 we see that even Paul who wrote a third of the books of the New Testament, saw Him and heard His voice. That’s why the man had so much revelation because he moved in these two dimensions. I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that he is your Lord and Saviour, and you shall be saved. May God bless you all.
