INDIAN firm, Vega Sportswear are proud to be associated with the Zimbabwe national cricket team as a clothing partner.

Vega Sportswear have been supplying the Chevrons with playing kits since 2016 with the deal between them and Zimbabwe Cricket stretching to next year.

Yesterday, Vijay Singh and Vineet Mahajan, the directors of Vega Sportswear said they were glad to be linked to the sport of cricket in Zimbabwe and went on to wish the Chevrons well at the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The tournament starts in Zimbabwe today with the home team among the 10 fighting for the two slots available for next year’s World Cup in England.

“We are proud to be associated with Zimbabwe Cricket and team and we wish them good luck for the Qualifier and we wish and hope to see them in the World Cup 2019. We have been a clothing partner since 2016, we have a contract until 2019. We are the only Indian brand to be associated with a Test playing country,’’ said Mahajan.

Singh said they were looking to expand into the African market with Zimbabwe being a perfect opportunity to expand their business.

“We would like to continue working with them for a number of years. We would like to have a mark on the African market, I think this is the best place where we can start. We make the best designs that is very comfortable to the players, we come from cricket background so we know what the player needs,’’ Singh said.

During their stay in Zimbabwe, the two have lined up meetings with local football and rugby officials as they look to break into other sports in the country.

Meanwhile, Chevrons replica shirts are already in the country and will from this week be available in Bulawayo, Harare as well as Kwekwe.-@Mdawini_29
