PREPARATIONS for the Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference are on course, with Bulawayo Metropolitan Province set to have a 326-member delegation to attend the party’s virtual conference scheduled for October, an official has said.
The party’s 19th annual conference will be held virtually this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a few members at the venue. The host province is Mashonaland Central, where only a small number of people will gather at Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE), while others will attend virtually from all other provinces.
Speaking at the Provincial Co-ordination Committee (PCC) meeting in Bulawayo yesterday, Zanu-PF Director of Administration Cde Dickson Dzora said they have travelled throughout the country to assess the preparedness of the provinces.
“This year’s National People’s Conference will be the first to be hosted virtually. We have visited the provinces to assess their preparedness and tell them what is required of them, and I must say there is a lot of progress,” said Cde Dzora.
He stressed that delegates attending the virtual conference from the different centres should be vaccinated and that strict regulations as prescribed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) will be observed. Cde Dzora said preparations were at an advanced stage for the conference in terms of venue, logistics, internet connectivity and food, among other things.
Bulawayo proposed centres were Davies Hall, National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Bulawayo Polytechnic and Hillside Teachers College. Cde Dzora said the conference was important in assisting the party to plan and was an opportunity to evaluate progress in implementing the party manifesto.
He said they were going to evaluate the party performance in terms of economic development where provinces were to give reports and feedback on devolution, showcasing successes and challenges registered.
Politburo member, Cde Tshinga Dube said the province should step up preparations for the conference.
