ZIMBABWE Triathlon Association president Rick Fulton has been assigned the role of Africa Triathlon Union continental co-ordinator which he assumes at the beginning of next month.

Fulton’s new task will see him take care of all technical, event and expansion ventures related to the sport in the continent.

These will be premised on calculated planning and budgets given the go ahead by ATU and International Triathlon Union hierarchy.

“I have been appointed as ATU continental co-ordinator effective 1 May 2017 to manage all technical, event and development projects for triathlon (and related multi-sport disciplines) within Africa based on the strategic plan and budget approved by the ATU and ITU executive boards,’’ said Fulton.

The 61-year-old was in 2008 elected to the ATU executive in 2008 which saw him being tasked with heading the Technical Commission. His responsibilities were to oversee and manage all technical aspects of ITU sanctioned events on the African continent on behalf of the ITU Technical Commission and the ATU. This included site visits, bids, sanction fees, contracts, pre and post-event reporting, ITU event management standards and ITU Technical requirements. His role was also to facilitate ITU Level 1, Level 2, and paratriathlon rules & technical official courses.

He resigned this month owing to professional appointment as ATU continental coordinator.

Fulton’s ascendancy to the continental co-ordinator’s post is a show of confidence in his leadership abilities as he last Saturday presided over the successful hosting of the Bonaqua Troutbeck ATU Triathlon African Cup at Troutbeck Inn. It was the 10th year since the event was sanctioned by the ITU as an African Cup.
