HOW Mine and Chapungu played to a stalemate yesterday in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve Stadium, a sixth drawn affair between the two sides since the return of the airmen to the top flight in 2014. All the two sides’ clashes have ended with no winner with their first clash in 2014 ending 2-2 while their next three league fixtures ended goalless. This year’s reverse fixture saw the two teams scoring two goals each at Ascot Stadium in Gweru.

Yesterday How Mine were staring defeat in the face when a Kuda Musharu strike on the stroke of full time cancelling out Hillary Mugoniwa’s penalty that Chapungu had been awarded on the hour mark. How Mine’s Kudzai Chideu and Tapiwa Kumbuyani had sandwiched Philip Marufu who fell down inside the box and referee Philani Ncube pointed to the spot.

The home side dominated possession from the first whistle but had a difficult time penetrating the final third and could not create clear cut chances. Chapungu coach, John Nyikadzino was happy with snatching a point away from home although he felt they gave away a soft goal as they were about to walk away with victorious.

“I don’t know what it will take for us to beat How Mine; I felt we were close to making it today, unfortunately we gave away a soft goal but I am happy with the overall performance of the team.

“While How Mine were better in the first half we came back a rejuvenated side and managed to get a goal through the penalty,” he said. His opposite number Kelvin Kaindu felt it was two points dropped rather than one point gained adding they missed on a chance to close in on the league’s leading pack.

“We were better than them (Chapungu) for the better part of the match and I feel we should have used our dominance to register a victory. “I am disappointed with the result because I was looking forward to getting maximum points,” he said.
