IF so, are you facing any challenges with the subjects you are taking? Trust Academy remains inspired to help you reach for greatness by passing these subjects the first or next time you sit for them. The realisation that high school level – O- and A-level – remain significant bridges that have remained difficult to cross in the academic journey has seen Trust Academy running supplementary examination classes in a bid to help those who have faced challenges in crossing these bridges. More so, many people have missed rewarding opportunities for job positions and/or promotions or even training as well as university/college places due to the fact that they do not have the required academic qualifications due the fact that they do not have English Language, Mathematics or Accounts as well as Science.

The idea is, as in the words of William Butler Yeats an Irish poet and dramatist, “Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot, but make it hot by striking”.

There are many people out there who could not make it to the required minimum of 5 O-level passes or 3 subjects at A-level in their first sitting. We urge such people not to despair rather they should borrow from the understanding that even if you don’t get it right the first time you can still retake the subject/s and excel exceptionally well. More often we are obsessed by our first time or second or even third time failure such that we sit back and relax.

High school education is very important and essential to students. It helps students to identify their own skills and to select their future routine where they have to go according to their talents and skills. It is essential to students to have basic knowledge of mathematics, science and language studies and they should be mandatory in high school education. However, in my point of view, I strongly believe they should be allowed to study what they prefer along with these mandatory courses. It helps them to identify their own talents, to improve them and to prepare for the future careers.

Graduating from high school and earning that high school qualification is extremely important; however, you may not actually realise how important it really is for you. Sure, you have probably heard your parents telling you that you need a good education, but are there really benefits to having a high school qualification? Yes, there really are benefits, and the following are just a few of the benefits you will reap if you get your high school qualification.

Better Job Opportunities — One of the main benefits of having your high school qualification is that you will be able to get better job opportunities. Instead of always being passed by for the good jobs, you will have the opportunity to get jobs that are more interesting. No doubt you don’t want to be stuck flipping hamburgers for a living, so having your O-levels as well as your A-levels is important. Admittedly in the current environment the above remarks may be debatable, but nothing beats the truth!

Makes You Feel Proud — Of course having your 5 O-levels including key subjects such as English Language, Mathematics/Accounts and Science from high school will also make you feel proud. In other ways it increases your own self-esteem and ego (or opinion of yourself).

Allows You to Go on to College (nursing school, polytechnic, university, teachers’ college) — Another benefit of having your high school qualification is that it will allow you to go on to college. Nowadays having a college education is becoming even more and more important. So, if going to college is your plan, you must ensure you get the required subjects at high school.

Higher Wages — Not only can your high school qualification act as an important stepping stone to help you get better job opportunities, but it can actually help you to make more money as well.

The Approach

The Trust Academy High School supplementary classes are designed to ensure flexibility, high level of professionalism as well as quality and student-focused attention to ensure that each student is helped through his/her individual challenges in such a way that the student appreciates and hence co-operates with the teacher in view of improving the weak areas. Our approach ensures that both examination and career-oriented learning occurs. The tuition delivery is tailored to suit the student’s specific examination needs, be they for Zimsec or Cambridge exams. Our teachers’ approach takes cognisance of the reality that most students who fail have answers in their brains but don’t know how to present them.

Our delivery is pretty focused on improving the students’ pass rate. The preparations further assist students to become psychologically ready for the impending examination by emphasising on two important things, namely the need to acquire sufficient subject content and develop appropriate examination techniques. Most students fail exams because they have the habit of answering what they think the examiners wanted to ask instead of understanding the correct demands of the questions. Often students don’t see need in understanding the meaning of the verbs used in the various questions. Verbs such as “describe”, “explain”, “state” etc.

The Trust Academy High School’s student-centred approach is also hinged on the following pillars:

— Classroom participation

— Homework, class tests and exercises

— Humour

Lesson Timetables

Trust Academy offers day lessons either on part-time or full-time basis. Full-time students are at the school from 8am to end of day. Such students are not required to wear uniform but are required to dress formally. In addition they are required to comply with the college’s rules and regulations relating to the need to attend lessons punctually and consistently, attempt all class exercises and tests as well as homework, avail their books for inspection and attend remedial lessons. Furthermore these students are required to maintain exceptional orderliness and demonstrate a high degree of respect and tolerance towards each other, their lecturers thereby realising the essence of diversity in the school and later in society and at work.

Part-time lessons can be done during the day at customised times, say for those who go to work or who desire such arrangements. Students can also attend lessons in the evenings from 5.30 to 7.30pm or on weekends either on Saturday or Sunday or both.

Evaluation

Students are evaluated through continuous assessment during the course of the preparation. Teachers are required to ensure that the student appreciates his/her areas of weakness and strength and students are often required to do corrections of failed exercises. In addition the teachers sit down with the student to help him/her to improve on challenging areas.
