THE Bulawayo Athletics Board will next Saturday conduct a two-day Level Two athletics coaching course for teachers and clubs at Gifford High School in Bulawayo. BAB chairperson Manuel Mpofu said only holders of the Level One coaching certificate will be eligible to undertake the course. Mpofu said they were also targeting and prioritising teachers under the National Secondary School Heads and National Association of Primary School Heads.
“The coaching course is open to everyone with a Level One and we are looking forward to having many people from Nash and Naph as well as individuals,” said Mpofu.
Mpofu said because of new developments in athletics, there was a need for coaches to be appraised of those while the course was generally aimed at developing the sport.
“There are new changes in athletics rules and the participants will be equipped with new techniques aligned to international standards. We want our coaches to keep on upgrading themselves until they attain the highest qualification,” said Mpofu
Phakamile Lisimati, the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe director of coaching, talent identification and development will be the course instructor and will be assisted by Midlands Athletics Board chairman Jerry Shumba.
Lisimathi also said the course was aimed at developing the participants to appreciate the modern coaching ways and tactics.
“We are trying to uplift the athletics standards by training coaches in modern ways and tactics,” he said.
Participants will part with $50 in participation fees, and at the end of the course they will be awarded national certificates.
