THE master bedroom which is the main or largest room in a house is usually occupied by the person who heads the household hence it should reflect the personality of the homeowner. Its bedding design should be eye-catching and appealing. Not only does it have the ability to set the tone for the room, but depending on the fabrics you select, it also helps determine the comfort level of your bed.

Here are a few ideas for making your bedding design a striking focal point of the master bedroom.

Your bedding should be simple and appealing. Whatever colour you select for your bedding should be attractive and it should complement other colours as well as the furniture. For instance, you will never go wrong with a simple white comforter. For smooth, clean edges, go with a no-frills white linen or crisp cotton duvet. You can otherwise choose a slightly more textured option like a woven quilt or coverlet. Adding a thick cotton fibre throw to the foot of the bed is a nice way to incorporate just a touch of colour. Having a base of white linens is the easiest way to make your bedding design versatile on a whim.

Select one shade for your bedding . . . it should be single-toned and changeable. Keep it minimal and relaxing with a deep saturated colour for a more masculine look or a lighter tone for a calm feel. Mix and match the duvet and pillows with complementary one-tone cotton sheet sets. You can easily swap out the colours seasonally. This is the perfect opportunity to make different combinations. You can also add in some decorative throw pillows. Be creative and mix shapes, sizes and colours.

Make your bedding design a little more vibrant by selecting pattern as its focal point. For earthy brown and grey shades mixed with bright colours such as red, orange or yellow, choose Indian textiles. For scrolled patterns awash in a colourful palette, look for Italian fabrics. Impressionist patterns in a bright palette can create an energetic ambiance. Duvet that has a profile prints look fresh and clean. Be innovative and blend the colour schemes.

When choosing your master bedroom theme, it is important to try to coordinate your bedding to your furniture for a seamless look. Brightly coloured patterns tend to pair nicely with dark woods. Single colours or slightly muted patterns on flatter textiles go great with modern designs incorporating metals and lighter woods. If you follow these simple tips, your bedding design is sure to be noticeable and inviting.
