SPRINT athlete, Faith Dube feels that she gained a lot from taking part in the recently held Senior African Championships held in Asaba, Nigeria, despite failing to get to the finals in the two races she took part in.

Dube competed in the 200 metres and 400m races where she bowed out in the heat, failing to make it to the finals of each race.

With some of the best athletes in the continent taking part, Dube said she gained a lot of experience.

“I tried my best, the fact that I was running with Olympians, I feel like I pushed to the maximum, whatever I did I tried my best. The feeling that I had, the weather, it also affected me but I can’t blame all of that, I tried my best. It was my first time taking part and I am happy with my results,’’ Dube said.

The Body Works Gym athlete, one of the two females who represented Zimbabwe in Nigeria is excited that she got to meet some of the best coaches on the African continent which  presented her with an opportunity to seek advice.

“It was quite a good experience to be there, I learnt a lot, meeting professional athletes was one of my major objectives that I was looking forward to. I met different coaches and I asked so many questions pertaining to training, weight training, track training and that on its own was quite a good thing because it will help me in achieving the goal that I want to achieve,’’ she said.

The 27-year-old Dube is heading into off-season where she plans to work on her strength and power, which are areas where she feels she is falling short.

“I am going off-season, I feel like there are a lot of things I need to work on. I will be working on my strengths and power, that’s what I noticed I am lacking.”

Dube is targeting next year’s All Africa Games whose host country is yet to be confirmed as well as the World Championships to be staged in Doha, Qatar.
