HOW Mine beat Harare City in a pulsating Castle Lager Premiership match played at Luveve Stadium yesterday to stay within a shouting distance of the leading pack.

The match started at a slow pace as both sides failed to play purposeful soccer in the first 10 minutes of the game. It was, however, the host’s first surge into their opponents’ half in the 11th minute yielded a result when Harare City’s defender Takudzwa Chimwemwe handled a pass intended for the home team’s attacking midfielder Pasca Manhanga from striker Kudakwashe Musharu inside the box. Up stepped the host’s goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya to rifle the spot kick into the nets beating a diving Maxwell Nyamupanedengu in goals for the visitors.

Harare City equalised in the 38th minute when William Manondo made a long clearance from the back to an on rushing Martin Vengesai whose first time shot beat a diving Diya at the near post.

Three minutes into the second half How Mine coach Kelvin Kaindu was forced to make a injury inspired substitution taking out right back Praise Tonha replacing him with midfielder Marvelous Mukumba. How Mine sealed the win when Toto Banda flicked the ball to Musharu who obliged by nodding the ball into the net with Nyamupanedengu on the wrong side of action. Harare City’s coach Philani Ncube said his side was unfortunate to lose as it played better than its opponents. Kaindu was happy at having collected maximum points but hinted that he was not impressed by the match officiating.

“I am disappointed despite us winning because some of the decisions made by the match official were very questionable. However, the most important thing is the score line at the end of the day. It has to be noted that this is not the first time we are witnessing this (bad match officiating) and as a club we are going to lodge an official complaint,” he said.
