Talented Hwange-based teenage footballer Nyasha Dube has broken new ground from the coal mining town of Hwange after being awarded a four-year scholarship in the United States at North Eastern University in Oklahoma state.
Dube (19) is the son to former Hwange player and head coach and former Warriors assistant coach Nation Dube. He leaves for USA on Friday.
The entire family is over the moon over the development and Sunday News Sport caught up with them yesterday afternoon at their home.
The father was beaming as he highlighted that football runs deep in the family.
“It is a God-given talent and no one can take that away from Nyasha. Football runs in the family and I am happy to pass on the baton to him and I’m sure he will be a Hwange and Zimbabwe football ambassador in that country,’’ said Dube.
Not to be outdone, Nyasha’s mother Theodora, whose passion is more in netball than soccer, urged parents to let their children develop their sporting talents.
Nyasha, nicknamed “Bhobho” and is an attacking midfielder, promised to do his best in the US.
“Firstly I am more than happy to be given this big opportunity to represent my country and will do my best to represent my home town and the nation as a whole there and grow into a star soccer player. Special mention goes to my mentors Edmore Sibanda and Never Munkuli for moulding me. I will not let them and any other person who helped build my career down,’’ said Nyasha.
Payne Global Sports Management local agent Lovemore Dube, who is based in South Africa, is also positive the youngster will leave an impact abroad.
Nyasha is a former captain for the Matabeleland North Youth Games team in 2015 and 2016 and featured prominently in the all-conquering Thekwane and John Tallach school teams during that period.
