HIP-HOP artiste Jub Jub said he spoke to the families of the children who died when he drove into them while drag racing.

But some angry family members deny this.

He must stop lying, they said. They told Daily Sun the South African musician has never spoken to them. For the first time since his release on parole, Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye broke his silence about the incident in an interview on SABC2 News.

He said he was a new man and was grateful to get a second chance in life. He said he had learnt from what happened and he respected the law.

“I am only human and I am sorry.”

Jub Jub admitted to the use of drugs but said he was now a clean man.

“It was grooving it up with a lot of pressure in the entertainment industry and everything you face there.

“When growth comes and you have a one-on-one with God, there is no way you want to go back.”

Jub Jub said he had spoken to the families of the victims of his crash.

“But the conversation which happened between me and the families is private.

“I don’t want to go into it.”

But yesterday, some of the families of the victims said he’d never spoken to them, let alone visited or apologised.

Edwin Masemola told Daily Sun: “He never came to us.

“How can we forgive him if he never came to us to apologise.

“He might have met the other families but he never met us.”

He said the incident still lives on in the minds of the family members.

“I don’t want to talk about this anymore. It brings back sad memories.”

Joyce Mtonga, the aunt of the late Prince Mohube, said the first time she heard about the interview was in a taxi on the way to work.

“People were telling me they saw Jub Jub on TV saying he’d spoken to the families of the dead. He never spoke to our family.

“I really don’t know what he wants from us.

“He killed our children and now he goes around lying that he asked us for forgiveness. I think he’s just looking for attention and is using our names.”

Ian Mthombeni, the father of Andile Mthombeni, said Jub Jub must stop lying.

“He never came to us, let alone spoke to us or apologised.

“I don’t want to see him. I am not selling out my son,” said the father.

Jub Jub and Themba Shabalala crashed their Mini Coopers into a group of schoolboys in Protea North, Soweto, on 8 March 2010, during a drag race.

The two men were originally charged and found guilty of murder and attempted murder on 16 October 2012.

In October 2014, the two men’s murder convictions were overturned and converted to culpable homicide convictions.

They were paroled on 5 January this year.

The four teenage boys killed were Prince Mohube, Mlungisi Cwayi, Andile Mthombeni, and Phomello Masemola.

Frank Mlambo and Fumani Mushwana were left permanently brain damaged.
