THE Zifa Southern Region will on Friday honour the league’s best player at a ceremony to be held at a local hotel.
Zifa Southern Region chairman, Musa Mandaza confirmed that the long awaited Machache Meats Southern Region Players awards ceremony, which was put on hold because of the African Union Sports Council Region Five under-20 Games which end today, were definitely on on Friday.
“All is set for the awards that will be held at a local hotel. We had to delay hosting the awards because of the African Union Sports Council Region Five under-20 Youth Games but we are happy that the best in the regional league will be rewarded,” he said.
The region will this year reward the top 11 stars who were selected by captains and coaches of teams in the league. One player will emerge as the soccer star with the coach of the year and the top goal scorer and coach of the year would also be given monetary prizes.
The top 11 was announced at the end of last month and these comprise Tsholotsho FC top goal scorer, Edmore Chirambadare, Black Boots’ Simon Njeleza, Gift Mbweti and Kelvin Nyoni, both of Technosphere, Chang Mariyone of Tsholotsho also features in the list along with Trumus’ Brian Chikwenya.
Kudakwashe Kundishora (Plumtree Chiefs), Wellington Chipendo (Mpumalanga), Fidelis Dube (Ntabazinduna), Webster Kondowe (New West) and Desire Shumbanhete (ZPC Hwange) complete the least.
A 2015 calendar, bearing the players pictures will be printed in honour of the outstanding footballers.
The best footballer in Division One will walk away $300, the first runner up $150 and third placed player taking home $100.
The rest of the runners up will pocket $50 each while the coach of the year will smile all the way to the bank with $250. The player who bangs in the most goals and gets the golden boot will be rewarded with $300.
Machache Meats unveiled a sponsorship package whose total value amounts to $2 000 for the awards.
