FROM protector to predator! This aptly describes the story of a father who could not contain his sexual appetite and went on to rape his 15-year-old daughter four times the same day his wife decided to visit her parents. The man, aged 36, raped his 15-year-old biological daughter and threatened to kill her if she dared tell anyone of his cruelty.

He appeared at Mwenezi court before Masvingo magistrate Mrs Sibonginkosi Mnkandla sitting on circuit in Mwenezi where he was charged for contravening section 65 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 – rape.

He was not asked to plead but indicated that he would plead guilty to the charge and told the court that he was  sorry about his shameful act. He said he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol that he had taken at Rutenga that evening adding that under normal circumstances he would not have committed the offence.

He was remanded in custody to 15 April to Masvingo Regional court to answer to his allegations.

The State case as presented by the prosecutor, Mr Willard Chasi, was that sometime in January this year at Village 4 Lapachi, Chief Maranda in Mwenezi the accused person accompanied his wife who was visiting her parents in Rutenga.

He left his wife at her parents’ home and went back home. He arrived home late around 7 pm and went straight to the kitchen to collect his supper. He knocked on the door and his 15-year-old daughter opened the door for him.

She was already asleep in the kitchen when he came back.

The accused person entered the house but instead of collecting his supper he decided to sit down and eat the meal in the kitchen while his daughter was in her blankets.

After eating the supper, the court heard, he then locked the door from inside and raped his daughter four times. He threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

The matter came to light on 8 April when the girl reported the matter to her grandmother.

It was the State case that the grandmother reported the case to the police resulting in the arrest of the accused person and his subsequent appearance in court on Thursday.

He was not represented.
