THE Old Mutual Heath Streak Multi-Sports Academy is set to host the Old Mutual T20 Cricket Cup 2015 on Wednesday to celebrate the coming on board of the financial services firm. The leading insurance services firm entered into a partnership with the Heath Streak Academy which saw the company becoming the title sponsors. Academy chief executive officer Joseph Rego said the game will feature the academy’s Under-14 cricket stars.
“To celebrate the coming on board of Old Mutual to our family as title sponsors, we are organising a T20 cricket extravaganza and fun day on 2 September.
“The main match will feature the academy’s Under-14 stars, one team being led by the former Zimbabwean cricket captain Heath Streak and the other by former Under-19 World Cup Team Zimbabwe member Kyle Bowie and Tuskers’ Cunningham Ncube,” he said.
The two Under-14 Academy teams will be vying for the prestigious Old Mutual T20 Cricket Cup.
Rego said the cup game marks the beginning of the Old Mutual cricket leagues organised for various age groups to scout talented cricketers who could be able to represent the country at the international level.
Recently the academy launched a novel grassroots development programme aimed at producing cricket stars to restore Zimbabwe’s past cricketing glory.
The academy has split its talented products into four age groups and has appointed international cricketer Christopher Mpofu and Ncube as their coaches to provide leadership, direction and quality programmes that will result in the development of the game at the grassroots level.
Rego said they are making the day a fun filled afternoon for the whole family and have lined up entertainment that includes music, candy floss, popcorn stalls, food stalls, cash bar, face painting and jumping castles with entry being free.
