MORE often homeowners are more concerned with the interior décor (inside decorations) that they often forget about the exterior (outside decorations). They are worried about how to make the inside of their homes look beautiful so much that they pay little or no attention to the exterior.

Your exterior needs just as much attention as you give to your interior, if not more. The outside portion is the first thing that your guests see before they enter the house and it determines how your home looks like inside. Thus, it is important to make a huge impression outside so as to make people or guests wonder what the inside looks like and want to see more.

In this week’s column we will explore ways in which you can use your outdoor walls to make your home attractive and elegant.

Using plants or flowers for your exterior walls can work perfectly. The good thing about decorating your exterior with plants is that you do not need artificial ones; you can just plant fresh and colourful flowers of your choice. You can either decorate the outdoor walls with upright succulent (thick fleshy leaves or stems adapted to storing water) such as string of pearls, or plant some in cans or flowerpots and place them adjacent to the walls. They are not difficult to maintain, they just need to be watered constantly. This will give your exterior a fresh atmosphere.

Since its exterior walls you are allowed to think a bit differently and come up with unique ideas. For example, hang a birdhouse on one of the walls of your house. Of course, this can work for you if you like birds and do not mind them buzzing around your home. It depends on what you like.

You will never go wrong with art. It can be anything from a painting to sculptures to a vertical garden or any other thing of your choice. In this case you can show off your personality, some home owners use something that holds special meaning to them. You can also use antiques. Instead of flowerpots you can use a vase filled with fresh and colourful flowers. They squeeze between the metal bars and look attractive on the exposed brick wall. You can feature a very appealing and rustic look.

There are some things that you do not need to pay someone to do for you, you can do them yourself. It involves working with a spray paint, it is quite simple. Start with a blank painting, coloured spray paint in several different colours, some string, painter’s tape, a chevron stencil and lace wash tape. With these things you can make four different wall decorations.

Simple frames can also have an interesting pictorial impact. Using empty frames as wall décor is a fresh idea which can also be applied to other surfaces. It can be a simple and practical way of beautifying the outdoors without investing a lot of time, effort and money. — Additional information from Online sources.
