IT is the month of February and everyone is seeing red, not the bad kind. It is the month of love and every radio station has Diana Ross and Lionel Richie’s Endless Love on repeat, movie houses are all screening The Notebook, never mind that the movies turns 13 this year and this is the only time of the year that a fully bearded man can wear bright red and not receive judgmental stares from everyone he comes across.

Husbands buy their wives lingerie, knowing full well that their wives sleep in worn out t-shirts that they used to wear back in college when they first met, boyfriends buy their girlfriends necklaces although no one really wears necklaces anymore and chokers are the in thing, the more sentimental couples might even go out to watch The Notebook, it’s an old movie, but its Valentines’ and anything goes.

However, for Xolani Dube, who runs Slice Pizzeria, he is bringing the movie Pizza My Heart to life as he will be serving heart-shaped pizza to his customers on 14 February as a celebration for the proclaimed day of love.

The pizzas will be of standardised size and will all go for five dollars for all flavours giving partners, married or not time to bond over their mutual feeling for each other over a generous serving of pizza.

Dube told Sunday Life that the initiative was in the spirit of celebrating and appreciating those closest to our hearts.

“It works both ways. We are mixing the two. We owe it to our customers to give them something to celebrate Valentine’s therefore have to cater for the people who want to spoil their loved ones on the day.”

The promotion is a first for Slice Pizzeria as they have not had a Valentine’s promotion for the four years that they have been in business but Dube highlighted that this year they are in a sound position logistically to hold a promotion and offer the public a unique deal.

“Valentine’s Day is also the right time to think outside the box and be creative and show those we appreciate how much they mean to us by doing something outside the ordinary which is what we are doing for our customers by offering something that we do not always have on the table,” Dube said.
