ZIMBABWE triple jump sensation, Nqobizitha Mpofu has made a huge step towards achieving his year-end target after jumping a great 7,34m distance on Tuesday at Mosi Striders training ground in Victoria Falls.
The athlete, who won silver at the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe championships that were held in Bulawayo early this year, after jumping his then personal best 7,06m, set for himself a target of reaching 7,88m before the end of the year and he is moving in the right direction towards achieving his goal.
Mpofu was impressed by the progress that he is making and gave thanks to the coaching department of Mosi Striders that has been pushing him very hard at training.
“I am improving like fine wine, my jumping distance has greatly improved and great credit goes to the coaching department of Mosi Striders for they have been urging me to work extra hard during training sessions,” he said.
Mpofu has also improved his jumping distance in triple jump, another sporting discipline which he has proved dominant in.
He jumped an improved 15,02m from his best record of 14,45 at the athletics competitions that were held in Bulawayo last month at White City Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the National Youth Games that will be held in Gweru, Midlands next month, Mpofu said he will be gunning for nothing but gold.
“With the current work rate that I am working under, I can assure you that as I go to the Youth Games, my mind will be mainly focused on winning the gold hence I put a challenge to other athletes from other provinces that they must up their game when training for I mean serious business,” said Mpofu.
