BULAWAYO Polytechnic will tomorrow host a social soccer tournament in honour of the late Highlanders and Zimbabwe Warriors legend Adam Ndlovu.
The country’s football legends and former players will fight it out for a first prize of a goat in what will be a winner takes all four-team tournament.
The tourney has attracted the likes of Douglas Mloyi, Melusi Sibanda, Simon Sibanda, Marko Sibanda, Jerry Sibanda, Bekithemba Ndlovu, Alexander Phiri, Sizabantu Khoza, Thabani Masawi, Colsen Mabeza, Sidumisio Tabeta, Blessing Gumiso and Netsai Moyo, who will make up a team of the Highlanders’ greats.
The other teams are Khules, a team that includes Ronald “Gidiza” Sibanda, Agent Sawu, Dazzy Kapenya, Nkosana “Santsho” Gumbo, Aubrey Sauramba, Sigubhu and Izinsizwa.
A draw, which will be conducted at the tournament venue, will see the matches starting at the semi-final stage.
The tournament is bankrolled by businessman David “Madamara” Ncube, who now runs Terrace Gardens at the Selborne Hotel, and the celebrations will take place at the joint.
Ncube said he felt honoured to sponsor the event as he had enjoyed a good relationship with the late Adamski when he was still alive.
“Adam was one of my boys. I am a football fanatic, if you have people honouring such a person you also get involved. We are celebrating his (Adam’s) life. We encourage everyone to come out and support,” said Ncube.
Adamski, as he was affectionately known died on 16 December 2012 in a car accident in Victoria Falls when the car he was travelling in with his brother Peter veered off the road, and rammed into a tree.
At the time of his death, Adam was head coach at Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Chicken Inn.
