THE World Economic Forum is working on establishing a global shapers hub in Bulawayo by June with the body already accepting applications as the forum moves to launch a hub in every major city in the world.
Hubs undertake projects to improve their local community and increase the capacity for impact of the global shapers in each area.

In an interview, Smile for Africa founder and Bulawayo global shaper Mr Albert Mavunga said launching a hub in Bulawayo would enhance growth in the city and improve the state of Bulawayo. He said the hub would be the second in Zimbabwe, with one already in place in Harare.

“The World Economic Forum will by June launch a hub in Bulawayo and the whole process is already under way with applications being accepted. Having a hub in Bulawayo will be an advantage and help develop the city,” said Mr Mavunga.

Mr Mavunga said four Global Shapers community members from Zimbabwe will be attending the World Economic Forum on Africa in Abuja, Nigeria, which will be held from 5-9 May under the theme Forging Growth, Creating Employment.

He said the global shapers community attends the forum as a way of networking, sharing ideas and generally trying to improve the state of the world.

“On 5 and 6 May, we will attend the Shape Africa conference which is for young people and it is an opportunity for us to represent our country, market it as an attractive investment destination and attract potential investors,” said Mr Mavunga.

Mr Mavunga said the Global Shapers were involved in individual projects that need investment hence they would be targeting workshops and seminars that are in line with their individual interests.

According to the World Economic Forum young people represent demographic majorities in most countries of the region and are, therefore, critical to defining the future of their societies as a whole. The Global Shapers Community supports outstanding leaders under 30 years old in working to improve the state of their communities.
