THE Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust is set to launch its “unique” musical album which encourages reading and usage of libraries.

After a year of making the album a reality, the trust will officially launch the album in Zimbabwe and New Zealand.

“We haven’t come up with an actual date as yet, but we are proud to announce that after a long struggle we will finally launch the long anticipated album now that all songs are in place, we are only working on logistics but the wait is over,” said Driden Kunaka, on behalf of the trust.

“Everyone is excited, from participating musicians, trustees, Goodwill Ambassadors, fundraisers, supporters and well-wishers. We had been hamstrung by financial resources to record songs after musicians had volunteered to create songs.”

Titled “Unite the world for library development”, the album carries mostly songs on learning, libraries and reading and a few songs without that theme meant to be interludes between the powerful themed songs.

“I want to assure the public that this is a powerful album which is the first of its kind in the world and will change the global approach to library advocacy. The songs are well thought out and are just out of this world,” Kunaka said.

Kunaka said they were surprised by the level of interest among musicians to be involved in the album.

Despite the piracy which has affected music sales, the trust is hopeful that the general population will realise that proceeds from the album will go towards library development and desist from piracy.

Musicians and groups with songs to feature on the 21 track album include Bkay and BaShupi, Charles Charamba, Jah Prayzah, Sandra Ndebele, Jeys Marabini, Jesse O’brien and Grace Falls (New Zealand), Selmor Mtukudzi and Faith Kunaka, among others.
