FOURTY-SIX couples renewed their vows yesterday at the Brethren-In-Christ Church in Pumula North, Bulawayo amid calls for people to respect their marriages despite facing challenges.

Mr Didius Moyo who was renewing his marriage of 47 years to his wife Mrs Edna Moyo urged couples to remain resilient as there were several challenges and problems which couples will always face.

“This is one of the best days in my life because it reminds me of our old days when we were still a young couple. Our love is being rejuvenated and this gives us energy and zeal to remain strong,” said Mr Moyo.

Mrs Ngqabuko Sibanda-Moyo who was celebrating 18 years in marriage with Reverend Mandlenkosi Moyo said divorce was not a solution to marital problems. He said people should respect each other and advised couples not to compete with other couples, as problems differ with each family.

The event left a mark in the lives of Mr Irvin Moyo and Mrs Sikhulilekile Moyo who said they felt challenged and motivated to nurture their marriage until death separates them.

“After seeing some couples with over 40 years in marriage, we have been challenged to remain together and continue cherishing our love,” said Mr Irvin Moyo.

The event oganiser, Decon Betty Sibanda said the church organised the day so that churches could be exemplary in showing other people in society that marriage still works and needs to be revived on timely basis. The head of BICC in Zimbabwe, Bishop Sinda Ngulube said couples should not be swayed by problems they encounter in their lives but should stand by their vows that only death will separate them.
