QINISANI Day-Care Orphanage celebrated Africa Day in style as the children received groceries and clothes from various organisations around Bulawayo at a colourful event held at the home on Thursday.

The orphanage is located in Nkulumane suburb and is home to 95 orphans aged between three and 18. The event, held under the theme “Help feed an African child” was organised by Reaching Out Charity Organisation (Roco), an organisation made up of youths who contribute and donate in cash or kind to the less fortunate for the betterment of the community.

Roco president and founder Langelihle Sibanda said her organisation worked beyond limits to make the event successful.

“We received a letter from Qinisani who were asking for donations and we tried our best to make sure we contribute something to them. On Saturday last week, we held a successful car wash campaign where we charged $2 for each car and all proceeds went to Qinisani. We are also looking forward to helping them in any way that we could, I also want to thank well-wishers who managed to donate.”

Mrs Yona Mpofu, the director of Qinisani said the home was hit by food shortages and this forced them to ask for help from different organisations.

Among those who donated are the Zanu-PF Youth League Bulawayo chapter, Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa and Mbira Tours. Qinisani received various items like clothes, mealie-meal, cooking oil, rice, beans and stationery.
