AN Amhlophe high school teacher has landed herself into trouble with authorities after it emerged that she has been using her lessons to campaign for the opposition, urging her students to tell their parents not to vote for the ruling Zanu-PF.

Ms Nomusa Siziba who teaches mathematics and English at the school was reported by students, initially to the school head and later to the School Development Council (SDC) for turning her lessons to campaign sessions mainly for the opposition.

According to school sources, red flags were raised over the conduct of Ms Siziba when it emerged that she would use her allocated periods to campaign for the opposition, a claim that was disputed by fellow teachers who revealed that she was being targeted for openly declaring that she supported the Citizens Coalition for Change.

“Nomusa Siziba was very vocal in distancing and refusing to be aligned to the Teachers for ED movement which is aligned to the ruling Zanu-PF. She was thus targeted as it was believed she was a member of the opposition.

“The story which we are now being told is that she was campaigning for the opposition which we feel is not even correct when considering the subjects which is teaching, if it was history it was going to be understandable but not mathematics and English,” said a teacher who declined to be named fearing victimisation.

School Development Committee (SDC) chairman at Amhlophe High School, Mr Henry Sibanda confirmed receiving a report on the conduct of Ms Siziba.

“Yes we are investigating a report where the said teacher allegedly turned her lessons into campaign lessons, we have received instructions to investigate and forward our findings to the Ministry, we will only be able to comment once the investigations are complete,” said Mr Sibanda.

A source close to Ms Siziba revealed that she was now living in fear as she was being unfairly targeted.

“She fears for her life because her refusing being part of the Teachers for ED movement is being used to persecute her, as is we do not even know where she is as she has apparently gone into hiding, her mobile phones are not even going through,” said the source.
