TWO unrepentant beneficiaries of last month’s Presidential Amnesty, one of them a 16-year-old boy, are back in prison after they were separately convicted of unlawful entry and theft by a Zvishavane court last week.

Marko Ravengai, and the 16-year-old whose name cannot be revealed since he is a minor, were sentenced to a total of six years in prison.

Zvishavane magistrate Mr Story Rushambwa slapped Ravengai with a five-year sentence for theft and unlawful entry, while the teenager got a year for theft when he appeared before Mr Shepherd Munjanja.

The teenager will, however, spend more years in prison after Mr Munjanja added a further 36 months from his previous convictions.

It was the State’s case against Ravengai as presented by Mr Stanley Ncube that on 1 June, he broke into Mtendi, Mudisi and Shumba offices in Zvishavane town and stole three HP laptops and one Samsung S4 phone.

Mr Ncube further told the court that on 7 June Ravengai broke into a Delta Beverages depot in Mandava and stole six six-packs of Super Chibuku beer and one case of mahewu.

On a date unknown to the court but in the month of June, this year Ravengai again stole seven broiler chickens at the Seventh Day Adventist Church cottages in Mandava. The chickens belonged to Mr Prosper Siziba.

Mr Ncube further told the court that on 13 June, Ravengai went on to break into the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) offices in Zvishavane where he stole an HP monitor, keyboard Compaq Central Processing Unit and an adapter.

One Tatenda Farara was found in possession of the stolen goods and told the police that he had bought them from Ravengai, leading to his arrest.

The State’s case against the 16-year-old jailbird as presented by Mr Stanley Ncube is that on 4 June this year he stole an HP laptop belonging to Mr Davis Masiwa who stays in Hillvile, Zvishavane.

However, the boy ran out of luck when he was caught trying to sell the laptop, leading to his arrest.
