A BULAWAYO City Council worker on Monday stumbled upon a suspected six-month foetus which was wrapped in a plastic bag at a dumpsite near Mkhithika Primary in Cowdray Park.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident.

“Yes, I can confirm having received a case of a foetus which was identified by Mrs Catherine Chari, an employee of the Bulawayo City Council,” said Chief Inspector Precious Simango.

Residents in the suburb said Mrs Chari found a blue plastic bag when she was cleaning the dumpsite in the morning.

When she opened the bag she was surprised to discover that there was a foetus.

Mrs Amanda Mpunzi said people quickly gathered after Mrs Chari informed them about the issue.

“When I went to where a crowd of people had gathered I was shocked to discover that it was a baby which had been dumped and I noticed that it was a baby girl. People are so heartless, I was hurt. Why have a baby in the first place if you are going to kill it this way,” said Mrs Mpunzi.

Newly-elected councillor for the area Mr Happson Ncube said it was disheartening, adding that some girls in the area could be forced into having unwanted pregnancies due to economic challenges.

Four weeks ago, residents in the same suburb also discovered a newly born baby at another dumpsite. The baby had stones stashed in its mouth.
