THE City of Bulawayo will today hold its annual civic service to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the declaration of Bulawayo as a City.
The service will be held at the church which is attended by the Mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni, Celebration Church starting at 9am.
In a statement, City of Bulawayo corporate communications manager Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said traditionally the civic service is held on the Sunday closest to 4 November.
“Bulawayo was declared a City on 4 November 1943 and every year, a Civic Service to commemorate and celebrate the declaration of Bulawayo as a City is held on a Sunday near the 4th of November.
“Annually, a divine church service is held at the incumbent Mayor’s Church and in this particular case it is going to be conducted at the Celebration Church Bulawayo located at 76A Josiah Tongogara Street and Leopold Takawira Avenue,” she said.
Mrs Mpofu further said the service will be conducted by the Mayor’s Chaplain.
“The Church service will be conducted by the Mayor’s Chaplain, with Aldermen, Councillors, Council Staff and invited members of the public in attendance.
“The Annual Civic Service Celebration is a service that is directly organized and facilitated by the incumbent Mayor’s Church, with the assistance from Council staff. It is a Civic function which is open to all residents and we invite the people of Bulawayo to support and display a community spirit,” she said.
