CHAOS reigned supreme at the Gweru City Council Mayor’s Parlour when one of the commissioners, Mr Mark Choga, went berserk and assaulted a resident, Mr Francis Muzorera, after he demanded that the former explains to residents why the commission was reluctant on implementing the recommendations of an audit report as instructed by Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere.

Tempers exploded during the council meeting which was convened in the Mayor’s Parlour where residents demanded that the commission fully implements the recommendations of the audit report as instructed by Cde Kasukuwere.

Mr Choga attempted to leave the venue after residents demanded they explain the reasons in the delay in implementing the recommendations of the audit report.

The infuriated residents and Mr Muzorera allegedly blocked Mr Choga from leaving the venue resulting in the latter assaulting the former and also insulted him using unprintable words.

Mr Muzorera alleges that Mr Choga tripped him to the ground and assaulted him before twisting his arm which dislocated.

“He (Choga) tripped me to the ground before twisting my arm. I have a medical report that shows that I suffered a dislocation on my arm and I am supposed to go and have a cast put on my arm. I have reported the matter to the police and I have witnesses who are ready to testify,” he said.

Mr Muzorera said the matter was now being handled by police, therefore he could not give further details.

Mr Choga confirmed assaulting Mr Muzorera but denied twisting his arm, leading to the dislocation. However, the commissioner said the action was in retaliation and self-defence after residents attacked him with chairs while blocking his way.

“What happened is that they (residents) called us for a meeting but unfortunately the people who were in the meeting were exceeding the proposed and authorised number of four.

“They chased me out of the meeting, as I went out they blocked the entrance and they started throwing chairs at me and I pushed Muzorera aside and he fell,” he said.
