UMZINGWANE Member of Parliament Retired Brigadier General Levi Mayihlome has hailed the ongoing rural electrification programme that has seen four transformers being installed in his constituency.

He said the installation of the transformers will see a number of key institutions being connected to the electricity grid, improving provision of services.

Rtd Brig-Gen Mayihlome said schools and clinics were the first priority hence the four transformers which were allocated were distributed to Irisvale village (1A, B, C), Terryline Village, Kumbuzi Primary and Mankula.

“This is an exciting development that will enable our schools to operate effectively and provide quality education. We all know it is difficult for clinics to operate without electricity and this development will see health care improving in the constituency,” he said.

Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company Western Region acting general manager Engineer Lloyd Jaji said the company installed a number of transformers in different districts under the rural electrification programme which was part of efforts to contribute to the attaining of Vision 2030.

“We have distributed a lot of transformers to different districts and I am happy to tell you that the programme feeds towards the President’s Vision 2030,” Eng Jaji said.

Rtd Brig-Gen Mayihlome said Zesa Esigodini has also been allocated a vehicle which will help the workers to attend the faults faster.

“Another exciting development is that both Zesa Esigodini and REA (Rural Electrification Agency) are working on the electrification of all schools, business centres and the outstanding villages. Zesa Esigodini has also been allocated a vehicle hence their response to faults will improve tremendously,” he said.
