The Gwanda Rural District Council last week handed over 19 motorbikes to its councillors and a vehicle exit package to its retired long serving Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ronnie Sibanda.

The motorbikes were meant to ease transport challenges for the policy makers. Speaking during the official handover, Ward 22 Councillor, Marry Mpofu said motor bikes will enable councillors to move around their areas of jurisdiction to monitor development and identify people’s needs. She added that, however, not all councillors got the motor bikes.

“We would like to appeal to the council to intervene and help all the councillors to get motorbikes so as to make us play our roles in the community without transport challenges, especially for those councillors in rural areas,” she said.

An official of the council, Mr Thulani Moyo said council will prioritise the purchase of outstanding motorbikes.
“We will make sure that each and every one of you gets a motor bike, even if it means we buy one per month as we won’t afford to buy them in bulk,” he said.

The outgoing CEO, Mr Sibanda, had served the organisation at various portfolios for 30 years. He was given an Isuzu twin cab vehicle as part of his exit package.
