Gwanda war veteran buried Mourners and members of the Zimbabwe National Army at the burial of the late liberation war hero Cde Joseph Ncube at the Matabeleland South Provincial Heroes Acre in Gwanda last Wednesday

SCORES of Zanu-PF members and local villagers last week thronged the Gwanda Provincial Heroes Acre to bury a war veteran, Cde Joseph Ncube (71) who died in a car accident.

Cde Ncube died in a car accident along the Gwanda-Vubachikwe road on 27 November and was buried last Wednesday.

Chief mourner, Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland South province, Hon Abednico Ncube said the deceased belonged to a breed of patriots who gave all for the liberation of the country.

“Cde Joseph Ncube did not accept colonial regime oppression but had to follow suit and take up arms to fight back the oppressors.

We are a sovereign and independent nation today because of the decisions that were taken by cadres like Cde Joseph Ncube.

This would not have been possible without determination, dedication and commitment. We are forever grateful for their selfless courage and sacrifice,” he said.

The deceased received military training in Zambia under Zapu. After training he was deployed to Hurungwe and at independence he went to Mashumbi pools Assembly Point.

He was attested to the Zimbabwe National Army and wor ked at Inkomo and Kaguvi Barracks.

He retired in 1988 and worked as a miner in Vubachikwe. He also served as chairman of Zanu-PF at  Sibakhulule mining syndicate Blanket Mine tribute, from 2019 until the time of his death.
